One Day, All Children: The Unlikely Triumph Of Teach For America And What I Learned Along The Way

The astonishing success of the program has proven it possible for children in low-income areas to attain the same level of academic achievement as children in more privileged areas and more privileged schools. One Day, All Children… is not just a personal memoir. From her dorm room at Princeton University, twenty-one-year-old college senior Wendy Kopp decided to launch a movement to improve public education in America. In One Day, All Children , she shares the remarkable story of Teach For America, a non-profit organization that sends outstanding college graduates to teach for two years in the most under-resourced urban and rural public schools in America. It's a blueprint for the new civil rights movement--a movement that demands educational access and opportunity for all American children.

Nothing more than alleged testimonials from past clients. A whole book of intriguing anecdotes. Not quite finished with the book, but I think it is a remarkable glimpse into the inner workings of a brilliant mind. Typically one glides through these books content in just appreciating the images while overlooking the cumbersome writing. She, singlehandedly, puts to rest the old canard - "never judge a book by its cover". Her ability to create prose with a such a decided flourish is rather unique in the genre of the art book. Like the rest of the world, I was profoundly touched by the heroics of the New York police and firefighters during and after the terrorist attacks. The idea of Teach For America was originally Kopp's senior thesis, but becamse a reality when she decided to pursue it upon graduation. Would not have a problem had the book description been accurate. Yes, we can learn from reading this simple

Her plan to create a national teacher corps by recruiting top college graduates to work in the neediest school districts across the U.S. led to the development of a solidly financed nonprofit organization that has placed more than 5,000 teachers, many of whom have achieved extraordinary academic results. For example, she argues that just giving them the same resources that privileged students have is not enough; teachers and administrators need to put in the extra time it takes to change these students' attitudes about their own capability for achieving success. When it comes to structuring and managing schools, she asserts that schools should recruit teachers from a variety of disciplines not just
