My head and body aching from some evenings as I fought every battle with him reading his book. I used it to prepare me for writing a policy proposal for a city's coastal resiliency policy!. The daring exploits of Cortez and his men would hardly be believable as a work of fiction, but they actually happened. His writing style is bland and the story line follows no distinguishable pattern, aimless flowing from point to point with few overarching themes.Unlike Juan Williams' Thurgood Marshall: American Revolutionary (a truly great biography focusing on the personal as well as the legal issues of this American giant) or Mark Tushnet's Making Civil Rights Law and Making Constitutional Law (two books that provide an excellent legal analysis of Marshall's work), Ball's book repeats stories and facts that are already well-worn and understood. Good book but the cheapskates at U. I think that parents should buy this book for children of the age 1-6 years of age. What a great way to begin memorizing scripture together as a family. Easy to follow. At 50 years old, I really didn't know what a shaman was, short of the 1992 Sean Connery movie "Medicine Man", in which the diminutive shaman (who Connery had made very angry) scared the hell out of me.
