For one, the art was not something I enjoyed in the least. Having read much of Procopius already, I was curious where the author got some of the quotes and anecdotes he included which were not from that source.All in all, I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a good, balanced overview of Justinian's reign that doesn't rely too heavily on the infamous 'Secret History.'. OK, I wasn't paying attention when I ordered it, and didn't notice it is only 40 pages long. The only thing I don't really like is the glossy pages. Lots of good information, but the author writes in a very "clinical" style that isn't particularly an easy read.. More powerful. As many know, the NRSV is a great translation but finding an NRSV that you can read and enjoy is like trying to find Atlantis. The book offers a wide variety of both her own work and classic period pieces.
